If you’re looking for a reasonably priced Pocket PC or PDA smartphone that can do it all, here’s the answer. The Cingular 8125 combines a GSM quad-band phone with a Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA with all the bells and whistles: Bluetooth 1.2, Wi-Fi, a miniSD card slot, support for EDGE high speed data, and more. And don’t forget the unique slide-out QWERTY keyboard that makes messaging, note-taking, and other writing tasks a breeze. The 8125 is GPS ready with a separate Bluetooth GPS receiver, and can also be used with the Cingular Wireless GPS service plan.

You can get a Cingular 8125 Pocket PC (Refurb) with a new plan or plan upgrade for about $80. Not bad for a device that started off around $600 unlocked.

The Cingular 8125 comes with Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition (touch screen version) and includes Microsoft Mobile Office with editable versions of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. PowerPoint is limited to a viewer. This is where you will appreciate the slide out keyboard which snaps reassuringly into a locked position. You can add any other additional Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC application.

The 8125 ships with Voice Speed Dial which although not true voice recognition does allow voice dialing over Bluetooth.

The processor speed is 200MHz. Flash ROM 128MB with 45MB free after operating system and installed application load-up. 64MB RAM. A Mini SD slot is available if you need more for music and document storage. It comes with a mini USB for charging and syncing, along with a separate 110v charger.

Cingular is already offering attractive pricing on the 8125 for new service and plan upgrades. The Cingular 8525 has a faster processor, Bluetooth 2.0 and a few other upgrades. As a value purchase the 8125 is the hands-down value leader. It has everything a smartphone can offer.
