Adding Ringtones To The Blackberry Pearl

Prerequisites:

  • The device must be able to receive Text Messages (SMS).  Ringtones purchased on the Cingular website will be delivered via SMS.
  • The device must be able to access MEdia Net.  MEdia Net access verifies that the ringtone can be successfully delivered to the device over the wireless network.

The Blackberry Pearl meets both prerequisites. Your Pearl handset can receive text messages and it can access MEdiaNet. This is true for all the Blackberry PDA smartphones available from Cingular so if you have an 8800c or an 8700c or any other Blackberry smartphone the procedure will be very similar.

Cingular provides two methods by which ringtones may be purchased for download to the device.

This post will cover only the first choice, buying and downloading from Cingular’s MEdia Mall website. You can do this from your desktop computer with the link provided, and you get a chance to sample the ringtones.

Click on the ringtone to sample it. If you like it click on the “Buy” button for the price. You will get taken to a page where you select your phone.

Enter the wireless number for delivery of the content (ring tone, game or graphic).

NOTE: The delivery number can be a family or friend using a compatible device.

Verify selection of the correct device model and click Submit

Once the MEdia Mall content has been sent to the wirless device, a message will be sent to the device. Select Load.

The ringtone will load onto your handset. You then get the opportunity to save the ringtone to the default location or wherever else on the device you want.

BlackBerry Media Player will automatically play the ringtone.

And you’re done! You’ve added a ringtone to your Blackberry Pearl.

Purchases of MEdia Mall content will be charged to the Cingular cell phone number and the charge will appear on your next monthly billing statement.
